Holy Family National School Constitution

The role of the student council is to improve the lives of the students in HFNS. Responsibilities of the Student Council include:

  • Promoting the interests of students among the school administration, staff and parents.
  • To inform students about any subject that concerns them.
  • To consult students on any issue of importance.
  • To organise financial campaigns for charitable activities.
  • To represent the voices of all the children in our school.
  • To support all initiatives in our school including, Green Schools, Amber Flag, Active Flag.
  • To support our curriculum.

Every class from 2nd class to 6th will have 1 boy and 1 girl student council member.

Each June students will be addressed at assembly where the role of a student council member will be outlined.  Students are welcome to raise their hand to show interest in being nominated. Class elections will take place with “first past the post” selection by secret ballot.

From those elected a president and vice-president will be elected. Anyone wishing to hold this role will  briefly state their intention and their ideas for this role.

A secretary, treasurer, 2 communications officers and chairperson will be selected by the student council liason teacher and principal. Members elected will remain for a two year period.

A training day will be held in September. Obligations and duties of student council members will be outlined.

A majority in favor will be used to decide actions. Wherin there is a deadlock the school principal will be consulted.

Notes will be taken at all meetings and minutes read begining any further meetings.

Members must attend monthly meetings to be held at different intervals including lunchtimes.

Failure to attend meetings may result in being replaced on students council.

In the instance of a resignation or removal of a council member, an in-class election can be held to replace that candidate. If a girl candidate is removed or resigns she must be replaced by a girl, with the same applying for boys.

Student council members are free to resign at the end of 1 year.

Student council members must conduct themselves in an exemplary manner at all times.

They must act responsively and with integrity. They must endeavor to hold up and promote our school motto at all times.
