Per Cent for Art Scheme:

Fuchsia MacAree
Holy Family recently applied for and was granted funding, through the Per Cent for Art scheme,
to commission works of public art for our school. More on this scheme can be found here:
https://www.gov.ie/en/publication/38b6d-per-cent-for-art/
A public art working group was established in the school, led by Mr Mulligan, and completed by
Mr Boggins, Ms Merry, Ms Butler, Ms N Murphy and Ms McMahon. This group was tasked with
drawing up a brief, approaching different artists and commissioning pieces for our school in line
with the brief. The theme chosen was ‘Nature and Irish Mythology.’
The initial part of the process took several months. Ultimately, after due consideration in line
with the scheme guidelines, artist Fuchsia MacAree was chosen to design and create a
sculpture for our Junior Yard area and a mural for our Main GP Hall.
Fuchsia’s website can be viewed here:
This project could not succeed without the input of the children of our school. Pupil voice was
paramount in ensuring we got artworks which represented the spirit, curiosity and creativity of
our children. After all, they are the reason we are here.
We hope that these artworks last for many years to come and that they are a source of pride in
the community.

Marathon Kids
Huge congratulations to all the pupils in Ms Ryan’s, Ms Mc Kelvey’s, Ms Mc Mahon’s and Ms Hartnett’s 5th and 6th classes who completed a marathon over the last 8 weeks. Marathon Kids is a programme organised by Fingal County Council, South Dublin County Council and Dublin City Council for 5th and 6th classes. The children ran laps of Forest Hills four times a week (increasing the distance each week) to complete their 26.2 miles. A fantastic achievement for all while learning about the benefits of sport.
We wish all our Hindu friends in the Holy Family NS
community a very Happy Diwali!
Children at Holy Family NS learned about the history and traditions associated with the Hindu Celebration of Diwali today. Parents joined us to tell us how homes are decorated while both children and parents displayed beautiful clothes and symbols associated with the festival.
